The Court of Assizes of Appeal of Cagliari also confirmed in the second instance the 20-year sentence imposed on the thirty-one-year-old spouses Dragana Ahmetovic and Slavko Seferovic, accused of the voluntary murder of their 20-month-old daughter Esperanza, which vanished in December of 2017 from the parents' caravan, later found on the outskirts of Cagliari.

At the end of the trial - which took place with an abbreviated procedure - the judges accepted the request for confirmation of the accusation, supported by Liliana Ledda. The couple was not present at the time of the sentence.

Esperanza had disappeared close to Christmas 2017, when the van where the family, of Roma origin, had been set on fire. The prosecutor of the District Anti-Mafia Directorate Guido Pani was called to coordinate the investigations because at the beginning there was a hypothesis of kidnapping for the purpose of extortion.

Only later did the terrible truth about the fate of the little girl, who would have been suffocated or hanged, begin to emerge. The little body, however, was never found: the parents were also challenged for the concealment of the body, as well as the simulation of a crime.

During the investigation, the two defendants supported different versions: first the kidnapping, then the natural death, a tragic accident, with the child dead due to a sideways morsel. And again: the woman had blamed her husband, but in the end she herself had taken responsibility for what happened.

Now the second degree sentence, which again inflicted 20 years on the couple.
