The monumental cemetery of Bonaria in Cagliari needs urgent interventions . And from today, Wednesday 26 March, it is inaccessible .

A 13 million euro financing is ready , but the resources that will be used for the total recovery of the cemetery amount to 38 million euros.

The lower part , entrance viale Cimitero, will be reopened within 15-20 days . For the upper part, entrance via Ravenna, longer times because it is necessary to consolidate the rocky ridge that shows worrying signs of subsidence.

The funerary monuments are the precious artistic enrichment of this space dedicated to memory. The contribution of the Piedmontese sculptor Giuseppe Sartorio is significant.

In the shade of the cypress trees and inside the urns many illustrious figures: the canon Giovanni Spano, the general Carlo Sanna, legendary commander of the Sassari Brigade, the opera singer Piero Schiavazzi, the mayors Ottone Bacaredda and Cesare Pintus, Gigi Riva.
