Blue Tongue reappears in Sardinia. The national veterinary epidemiological bulletin reports the first outbreak of the summer of 2025: the infected sheep are in Onanì. No cases had been recorded on the island since March.
The serotypes found, according to the report, are 4 and 8. The certification of the analyses is dated July 4.
The Experimental Zooprophylactic Institute of Sardinia provides other data: the heads involved are 66, with two confirmed infections. One sheep has already died.
An isolated case or the beginning of a new nightmare season for Sardinian breeders?
The Region had started a massive vaccination campaign. Shepherds who had not submitted their adhesion within the indicated deadlines, it was announced, would not be entitled to compensation in case of damage.
And while all eyes are now on the Onanì sheepfold, the spread of contagious lumpy skin disease affecting cattle seems to have slowed down. The last confirmed cases date back to July 3: since then, no tests have been positive.
