Bitti's dismay, Giorgio Pittalis hammered to death by his brother: a "difficult coexistence" at the basis of the crime

A difficult coexistence and continuous quarrels: these would be the reasons behind the murder that shocked the community of Bitti this morning .

Giorgio Pittalis, 61, and his brother Giuseppe, 55, lived together day and night: both in their home in the center of the Nuoro area and in the family business in Sae Lussu.

And it is precisely in the company that this morning at dawn the younger brother killed the older one with hammers . In the village there is talk of two hard workers who together managed a flock made up of several hundred sheep but whose forced coexistence had become increasingly difficult, even more so when the mother who died a few years ago lost her footing .

Most likely this is the motive that triggered the homicidal raptus in Giuseppe. Then the man returned to the village and at around 8.30 he met the mayor Giuseppe Ciccolini. To him, even before the carabinieri, he admitted the fact .

This is the story of the mayor of Bitti: «I saw Giuseppe very shaken and I asked him what was wrong. At that point he confessed to me that he had just killed his brother. He was already intending to turn himself in. I asked him if he needed someone to accompany him. He said yes, and so I took him to the barracks».

Pittalis, in front of the captain of the carabinieri of the Compagnia di Bitti Fabrizio Ricciardi, confessed.

The whole community is in shock for the tragedy, for those two brothers always so united and now divided forever . Giuseppe is more sociable and ironic, Giorgio is more reserved, but both are always kind to everyone.

"A veil of mourning has fallen here, the community is dismayed," comments the mayor, who also confirms the motive. « It is a story that has the contours of a difficult coexistence between the two brothers, of which unfortunately no one until today had understood the seriousness, also because, despite their quarrelsomeness, they led a peaceful life within the community. Bitti mourns Giorgio today but he will not abandon Giuseppe in this dramatic phase of his life ».

Pittalis was transferred to Badu 'e Carros prison after interrogation. The carabinieri of the Nuoro investigative unit intervened on the scene of the murder, who also collected the first testimonies of relatives and friends. Having discounted the autopsy on the victim's body, the investigations are coordinated by the prosecutors of Nuoro Giorgio Bocciarelli and Riccardo Belfiori .
