Making Bitti safe even in the event of exceptional events, as happened in 2020 when a flood devastated the town, also causing three deaths . This is the objective of the technical and economic feasibility plan relating to the interventions and works to be carried out which was presented this morning during a public meeting.
The regional councilor for public works, Pierluigi Saiu, was present: «Today, in memory of those events, which cost human lives and capable of causing damage for hundreds of millions, we have the duty to do our utmost to ensure that no one has to relive such a tragedy again . For this reason, the Regional Council attributes a priority nature to the interventions that must be carried out in Bitti».
The planned works have a value of approximately 110 million euros : 89.7 million for those to be carried out in the inhabited center and 20.5 million for those outside.
«The works inside the town – specified the exponent of Giunta Solinas – will have a faster process than the external ones and will therefore be ready for construction more quickly. These are important interventions that will have to be carried out in several stages. We are talking about the adaptation of the existing graved and open-air canals, the creation of new canals, new crossings and works outside the town».
Furthermore, Saiu recalled, «in the financial manoeuvre, which will be discussed next week by the Regional Council, the Giunta has programmed 149 million euros for the hydrogeological instability of the island: 110 million for works and 39 million for planning. To these funds are added the state allocations on hydrogeological instability and the programming on community funds Fsc 21-27 for a total value of one and a half billion euros. It will be essential for Bitti to continue along the path we have mapped out and speed up the design phases to start work as quickly as possible. There's still a lot to do, but today's is an important step forward».
«A historic day for the safety of Bitti», commented the mayor, Giuseppe Ciccolini : «The start of a decisive countdown for the realization of important works for the future of our community». «A huge job has been done since 2013 – he said again -. Proof of this is that we are now reaching the definition of this plan, the result of a very complex process which took years to find the funds, which arrived only in 2016, and then for the planning phases, necessarily remodulated due to the second flood of the November 2020. Bitti was in fact one of the very few municipalities in all of Italy that in the space of seven years had two such massive floods».
