Barumini says no to wind energy near the Su Nuraxi palace. The municipal council with only the votes of the majority (absent the minority representatives), opposes the construction of a plant consisting of 17 blades, 200 meters high, each with a power of 6.6 megawatts and a total power of 112.2 . The plan presented at the beginning of the month by "Grv Wind Sardegna 6 Srl" also involves the Municipalities of Escolca, Gergei, Las Plassas, Villanovafranca, with connection works that would also touch the territories of Genoni, Gesturi and Nuragus.

A plant that "would compromise not only the landscape of our territory but, above all, the image of the Unesco archaeological complex of Su Nuraxi with important negative repercussions, including for tourism, on one of the symbolic places of the island", underlines the mayor of Barumini, Michele Zucca, «ours is not a preconceived position and we are sensitive to the energy question, but we cannot accept a top-down project that contrasts with the development policy of the territory».

Among the other reasons that led the Municipality of Marmilla to oppose the wind project, there is also «the well-established tradition on the capacity of tourist attraction at regional, state and international level recognized thanks to the inclusion of the nuragic complex "Su Nuraxi" on the list of Unesco heritage sites".

But the no also derives from the fact that «the protection of the landscape and of the historical-artistic heritage constitutes an important element of defense and protection of the environment, an indispensable element for the promotion of the values founded on our community and also for the tourist valorisation of the territories ».
