“Forty-nine people, innocent human lives imprisoned for 18 months inside boiling concrete blocks.”

This was reported by the guarantor of people deprived of liberty in the Sardinia Region, Irene Testa, after her visit this morning to the Macomer detention center for repatriations.

A center which - Testa states - is in a "shameful situation, not worthy of a civilized country".

The guests, explains the guarantor, are «without fans and without air conditioners. Without a fridge and forced to drink boiling water. No chairs, no sheets. The only ones that the specifications include are made of tnt, a synthetic material similar to plastic and unbearable for the skin, no one uses them. No chairs, no pencils, no sponges to wash yourself with."

Furthermore, adds Testa, «all the guests of the center are forced to stay on the floor, in the cells and corridors where not a breath of air circulates. They are forced to protect themselves from the sun entering the cells with blankets hanging from the windows. Some guests have even asked for repatriation more than once - concludes the guarantor - but no one intervenes".
