"The healthcare staff is exhausted and must work grueling shifts to care for over 40 patients. The wards are full, and there are patients in the corridors."

The serious situation was reported in the Geriatrics department of the San Francesco hospital in Nuoro by Nursing Up, the nurses' union .

"These conditions are unacceptable for patients and for healthcare professionals themselves," denounces union leader Francesco Carta : "Work is extremely difficult, and it's difficult to guarantee patients' privacy and a sense of dignity during healthcare procedures."

Furthermore, "nurses and healthcare workers are accumulating excessive and harmful levels of stress day after day. They are working with anxiety due to the knowledge that working under overloaded conditions carries a very high risk of making errors."

The union is on a war footing, "ready to implement all necessary initiatives to protect the health and safety of healthcare workers and the citizens entrusted to them, including unrest."
