Engie Italia and Heineken Italia have begun construction of a photovoltaic park with a capacity of over 8.6 megawatts next to the historic Ichnusa brewery in Assemini, in the province of Cagliari. The facility—which will span 137,000 square meters with over 15,000 panels—will produce approximately 15 GWh of renewable energy annually, "covering 100% of the brewery's electricity needs," according to a statement. Completion is expected in early 2026.

"It will be one of the Heineken Group's largest on-site photovoltaic projects in Europe," the statement continues. The initiative is part of the Sardinian brewery's decarbonization process, which benefited from a €73 million investment plan in 2021. Engie and Heineken have signed a 15-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).

"This project represents another coherent step in our decarbonization and investment journey in Sardinia," said Alexander Koch, CEO of Heineken Italy, in a statement. "It will allow us to brew increasingly responsibly and with clean, locally generated energy."
