The Municipal Administration has announced that the first lot of the project to enhance the natural area of Saloni is almost finished. With an investment of approximately 340 thousand euros of regional, municipal and Union of Gallura Municipalities funds, in the last two years the following have been completed: the stone fence wall has been rebuilt; the new entrance gate has been purchased and installed; the undergrowth has been cleaned; the dirt paths have been defined and finally the first wooden walkways and the observation point near the mouth have been built. The area affected by the interventions is at the entrance to Cannigione, on the west side of the Rio San Giovanni, in the 5 hectares of land confiscated from the mafia, from the Magliana gang, and acquired by the Municipality of Arzachena. The initiative is promoted by the Environment delegate, Michele Occhioni, while the coordination of the works is by the Public Works Office.

Last September, the Council of State had decided to readmit the tender to compete for the allocation of funding of 2 million and 500 thousand euros from the PNRR for the implementation of the project “Saloni park of inclusion”; «An important project from a naturalistic point of view for the strategic position of the lands confiscated from the mafia at the mouth of the San Giovanni river, but it is also important for its social value», declared delegate Occhioni: «a symbol of change in favor of the common good. The funding of the social inclusion park would be the first step towards achieving an even more ambitious goal, that of the river park “Saloni - Lu Mulinu” for the enhancement of the entire area that, from the sea of the Gulf of Arzachena, leads to the hinterland, where the old stone mill of the town stands».
