Serious death of fish in the S'Ena Arrubia pond, a small environmental paradise nestled between Cirras and Arborea.

«We are in an emergency» repeats Alberto Porcu, president of the Sant'Andrea fishermen's cooperative, while mullet and sea bass continue to emerge from the seabed. The causes are still not clear, the low level of oxygen in the water could be due to the presence of algae or the shallow depth of the pond.

The first problems occurred last Friday, the intervention of the Arpas and ASL experts was immediate, the outcome of the investigations did not bode well: the oxygen level in the water was zero. The following day the situation seemed stable, we even managed to fish but between Sunday evening and today the situation worsened. «We estimate a loss of around 100 quintals of product».

We are wondering about the causes, technicians from the zooprophylactic institute and the marine center arrived in the S'Ena Arrubia compendium and took some samples of an algae which could be the cause of the lack of oxygen . Also on-site inspection by the men of the Forestry Corps of the Marrubiu station, led by commander Antonello Cadoni. The problem could also be due to the lack of maintenance of the canals or to the shallow depth of the pond, where a lot of debris flows together with the rain and accumulates on the bottom.
