A shocking announcement was made last night during the Arborea City Council meeting. Mayor Manuela Pintus left the chamber after informing everyone present that she had received two death threats in the space of a few months.

Shortly afterward, she decided to share her experience on her Facebook page, writing a long post. "Thanks to my administrative role, I have had the unpleasant experience of receiving death threats," she wrote. "I never thought it could happen (or ever again), but it happened here in Arborea. I explained this situation to the city council," the mayor continued. "I hope this is resolved for the best and that people understand that the role of mayor exposes women and men equally, sparing no one."

According to Pintus, "Life is no longer as peaceful (as is easy to imagine), so—despite having avoided involving other people and parties—I have decided to speak out publicly," the statement continues. "During this time, I have had the constant support of the Carabinieri at our station (and beyond), whom I thank and to whom I will always be grateful. I thank the men and women of the Oristano state police. I also thank all the people who often call to ask how I'm doing. Thanks to my colleagues and to my president of ANCI Sardegna."
