Alghero mourns one of its best men: Enrico Loffredo, the first and only communist mayor in the history of the Catalan city .

He died on Saturday morning at the Sassari hospital following some heart complications .

He was 75 years old and was Mayor in 1981 and 1983 . In 1983 he had received over 6,000 preferences from his fellow citizens. A real record of consents. Loffredo was in fact much loved, esteemed even by his political opponents.

At 29 he had also become a regional councilor, in the ranks of the PCI, 5 years later he was elected mayor by the city council .

From an early age Loffredo was passionate about politics, in that gym of ideas and men that was the headquarters of via Mazzini and throughout his life he was consistent with his convictions. For a few years retired, he worked for several years at the petrochemical in Porto Torres, then at the university canteen and finally ventured into tourism as a hotelier.

Deep condolences in Alghero . Moved remember the mayor Mario Conoci , all the exponents of the various political forces and thousands of citizens.

Many messages to the family also from all parts of Sardinia. Particularly touching is the memory of the former Communist deputy from Alghero Elias Vacca: "A political teacher of mine and above all of values is leaving" .

Enrico Loffredo's funeral will take place on Sunday, in secular form, according to his will. The former mayor leaves behind his wife and three children.
