It had already been denounced on July 7 by the president of the council's Health Committee, Christian Mulas: the closure of the internal tunnel connecting the main entrance of the Alghero Civil Hospital to the pediatrics, nephrology, and dialysis departments, and the health management department, is an "incomprehensible and inhumane" decision, said the majority councilor. A month later, nothing has changed. Only increasing inconvenience for patients, families, and healthcare workers.
The Local Health Authority had already explained that the modification was necessary "to upgrade the fourth-floor space for the construction of an advanced surgical clinic and new outpatient clinics," and that the work would be completed by the end of the year. But Mulas points out that those most affected are the most vulnerable: sick children, the elderly, and those undergoing treatment who must travel daily between the emergency room and the mortuary, in the rain or the scorching sun, to access care .
"It's unthinkable that the decision to close such a vital internal connection to create changing rooms was made," Mulas attacks. The situation has prompted a group of mothers to write an open letter addressed to Councilor Mulas : Valentina Sanna, Giuseppina Spanu, Eleonora Piras, and Michela Soggia, signed by other families and residents, are launching an urgent appeal for the tunnel's reopening. The signatories' words are harsh, describing the condition as "no longer acceptable" and calling for patients to be restored to safe and dignified access to care.
The president of the Health Commission is now asking the management of the Sassari Local Health Authority (ASL) for urgent intervention.
