The details of the accident that occurred this afternoon, around 4:15 PM, on Via Villa di Chiesa in Iglesias are still unclear. A man in his fifties, driving a white Volkswagen, suddenly lost control of the vehicle , flipping it onto the side of the road and hitting a second car, which crashed into a lamppost, knocking it down.

Firefighters responded quickly to the scene, securing the pole and rescuing the Volkswagen driver, who suffered minor injuries . The man was taken to Sirai Hospital in Carbonia with a yellow code . The other driver involved, whose vehicle sustained obvious damage, was unharmed.

Also at the scene of the accident were officers from the State Police command and the Carabinieri of the Iglesias company, together with the 118 emergency responders and the firefighters .

The incident occurred near the junction between Via Villa di Chiesa and Via Cavaliere San Filippo, an area where the municipal administration has already planned to install a raised pedestrian crossing near the church of Santa Lucia.

"Unfortunately, cars continue to speed too fast at this point," commented Deputy Mayor Francesco Melis. "We will use more mobile speed cameras, but we hope to solve the problem by installing the raised pedestrian crossing."
