The "Social Taxi" is born: it is the project that the Gennargentu Mandrolisai mountain community makes available to citizens of the area to reach the points where health services are provided.

It is aimed at over 65s and over 18s with 100% disability or chronic pathologies, and at people cared for by social services, with economic difficulties or particular hardship situations. The mountain organization thus wants to bridge the distances between the 14 towns that have been experiencing a difficult situation for local healthcare for years and the nearest hospitals or clinics.

«Whoever needs to have a medical check-up will have the possibility, upon reservation, to be accompanied to the place chosen for the visit», explains the president of the Community and mayor of Atzara, Alessandro Corona, «It is an experimental project but with the objective that it can become definitive, structural. An important help for an abandoned area of Sardinia."

The service is financed with 300 thousand euros from the funds coming from the National Strategy for Internal Areas (Snai) and will start at the beginning of 2025. «We are trying to overcome some of the serious problems we have», continues Corona, because «the San Camillo hospital in Sorgono often it does not give the desired answers and this area of Sardinia is far from the larger centres, difficult to reach due to disastrous roads and internal transport services, which are lacking or non-existent. It will be a service that will help our population, so that they can have a simpler, more practical and economical way to treat themselves and be able to have medical visits."

The "Social Taxi" will work on call and by reservation and will set off immediately towards the various health and socio-health facilities in central Sardinia, to carry out tests, therapies and medical visits. To take advantage of the opportunity, you must be resident in one of the municipalities of the Gennargentu Mandrolisai mountain community and interested people must submit an application to the municipal social services offices, on a form prepared by the Gennargentu Mandrolisai mountain community. An information office has been set up in each municipality of the entity.
