After more than a year of waiting, Capoterra finally has another pediatrician: Maria Chiara Mulvoni, 34, has opened her practice on Via XXV Luglio.

Dr. Mulvoni will temporarily fill the vacant position from July 2024 , strengthening the service already offered in the town by pediatrician Daniela Maria Giacobbe.

Having arrived in Capoterra a few days ago, Mara Chiara Mulvoni—now in her fifth and final year of specialization school—is ready to dedicate all her enthusiasm to serving the children of the area: "I applied for a 12-month temporary position, after the search for a permanent pediatrician was unsuccessful. Being a doctor for such a short period of time certainly helps you gain experience while you wait to complete your specialization program, but such a position is not without its challenges."

Dr. Mulvoni will be able to care for children who don't yet have a pediatrician or are currently being treated by a primary care physician. Only these families will be able to request a change and entrust her care to them. "Unfortunately," Mulvoni explains, " this initial assignment won't provide me with any future benefits; points are earned only upon completion of residency training. The patient acquisition system also doesn't benefit young pediatricians, as families can only express their preference through the Doctor Selection and Revocation Office, either by email or in person in Pula. In any case, I'm very determined and eager to make myself available to this community: I hope that families without a pediatrician of choice will come knocking at my door."

Mayor Beniamino Garau had already written to the Local Health Authority last year asking for a new pediatrician: "I won't go into the details of the Local Health Authority's regulations, but I'm happy that Capoterra finally has a medical figure of this kind. We welcome Dr. Mulvoni and wish her the best in her career."

The mayor also emphasized the need to reopen the health center on Via Lombardia as soon as possible, closed for months for renovations, which should also house a pediatric clinic : "The renovation is progressing slowly, and I recently emphasized this in a letter to the local health authority. Those facilities are very important to us, because they will allow us to reopen basic services and make room for new ones."
