The accident occurred just as people were returning from the beaches, when traffic was heaviest and the number of vehicles on the roads was overwhelming. At 8:40 PM on State Road 195, a motorcycle crashed into a camper van that was just about to turn left. Both vehicles were heading toward Cagliari, and neither had time to realize what was about to happen.
The impact was inevitable, the fall disastrous. On the asphalt, close to the side guard rail, lay the lifeless body of the young motorcyclist, a twenty-year-old from Capoterra. His name was Dario Paolo Garau , a life cut short on a two-lane highway that at this time of year makes one think of vacations, yet instead became the scene of yet another tragedy.
The arrival of the boy's father was heartbreaking. Desperate, he threw himself on his son's body, asking why such a terrible tragedy had happened. "It's not possible, it's not possible," he cried as he embraced the now lifeless boy.
The exact reconstruction of what happened is now in the hands of the Carabinieri, who intervened shortly after to carry out surveys, collect testimonies, and also regulate traffic, which at that point was completely blocked.
