A large fire broke out this afternoon in the countryside bordering the municipalities of Burcei—four kilometers from the town—and Sinnai, in the Baccu Sturrui area. The fire is affecting an area of low-lying Mediterranean scrub, with winds fanning the flames.

The Forestry Corps is intervening with two Canadairs from the national fleet departing from Olbia airport, two helicopters from the bases of Pula and Villasalto , plus a Super Puma arriving from Fenosu.

The firefighting operations are particularly complicated : it's a mountainous area, rather inaccessible. The situation is reportedly under control, although there are no access roads, which is why air support was necessary. Efforts are being made to prevent the flames from reaching the forest.
