There is a story of Sardinia that still waits to be told: that of the women who have left an indelible mark on the culture, society and memory of the Island.
A story that finally takes shape in the book “Percorsi femminile in Sardegna” by Enza Plotino, which will be presented on Saturday 22 March at 5:30 pm at the Fondazione di Sardegna, in via San Salvatore da Horta 2, in Cagliari.
The event, organized in collaboration with GiULiA Giornaliste, will see the participation of Susi Ronchi, author of the preface, together with Nicoletta Usai and Gianluca Medas. The meeting will be moderated by Sandra Pani.
“Percorsi femminile” is a journey through time and urban space, in search of those female figures often forgotten by the official narrative. The editorial series to which the book belongs aims to reconstruct a collective historical memory that also includes the contribution of women, too often put in the background .
This year the project lands in Sardinia, one of the most ancient lands in the world, where history is intertwined with myths and legends and above all where women have played a fundamental role, although rarely recognized.
The book retraces a series of itineraries to bring out the biographies and faces of extraordinary female figures: Adelasia Cocco, the first female doctor in Italy; Battistina Melis (Bittiredda), a character from popular tradition; Candida Mara, entrepreneur and benefactor; Carmen Melis, an internationally renowned soprano; Catalina Lay, warrior and noblewoman; Edina Altara, artist and illustrator; Paskedda Zau, activist and feminist ante litteram; Perdìtta Basigheddu, poet and singer; Violante Carroz, rebel countess. And many others, including figures who move between history and legend, whose memory has been handed down over the centuries.
In addition to biographies, "Percorsi femminile” in Sardegna also explores folk tales and myths , separating reality from fantasy and offering a fascinating insight into the culture of the island. A special chapter, edited by Paolo Mastroianni, is dedicated to the historical maps of Sardinia, to understand the evolution of the territory and the role that women have had in shaping it.
