A major historical event in Orotelli: the Cambosu Foundation, in close collaboration with the Pro Loco tourist board and the Municipality, is opening the doors of the Cambosu House Museum. The official inauguration is scheduled for 2026, and was created to celebrate the 130th anniversary of the birth of the writer and journalist Salvatore Cambosu (1895-1962). The museum, one of the few in Europe and the only one of its kind in Italy, was created by director Francesco Casu in collaboration with the CRS4. Multimedia and interactive, it takes visitors on an immersive journey of discovery of the writer.

Supported by new technologies, each room in the house conveys the power of his thought, his works—including the celebrated Miele Amaro—and his commitment as a teacher, intellectual, and attentive chronicler of a changing Sardinia. This space also explores his profound connection with Maria Lai, to whom he was a teacher, mentor, and, above all, friend.

"Salvatore Cambosu represents a fundamental pillar of the neorealist literary and cultural landscape of the twentieth century, in Sardinia and beyond," says Piero Marteddu, president of the Cambosu Foundation. "The national conference held between Orotelli and Nuoro back in 1992, with leading figures from the Italian cultural and literary world, confirmed that Cambosu's works had transcended the island's borders and established themselves throughout the country. It is an honor for me to celebrate this year, together with the entire board of directors of the Foundation and the Municipality of Orotelli, with the support of the Region and the Fondazione di Sardegna, the 130th anniversary of the birth of the intellectual from Orotelli, after having paid homage in 2024 to the 70th anniversary of his most famous work, Miele Amaro. We will do so with a series of events, organized and promoted by MusArte. We all have a responsibility not only to valorize the eminent figure of our fellow citizen and to definitively bring him out of the limbo of the hidden writer, but also to help the community, the territory and Sardinia as a whole grow, using the extraordinary tools of culture."
