Mateo Retegui is the new name of Roberto Mancini's national team, who tomorrow will play against England in Naples and will be on stage in Malta on Sunday in the qualifiers for the 2024 European Championships . Forward born in 2000, plays for Tigre in Argentina but is owned by Boca Juniors, and was called up by Italy because his maternal grandfather is originally from Canicattì.
But in his past there is also Sardinia, which he visited as a child.
His father, Carlos Retegui, from 2004 to 2006 played and successfully coached Suelli's Field Hockey team in Serie A1 : he is a great name in international hockey, with three participations in the Olympic Games as a player and various triumphs as a coach with the Argentina national team for both men and women.
And precisely in the years in which, when he was a child, his father was in Sardinia, Mateo was able to get to know the island, in fact the first place he visited in Italy : his "new" homeland, with the blue shirt now waiting for him .
