A journey through the repertoire of one of Italy's most beloved singer-songwriters, whose rich output never ceases to enchant. This Thursday, the stage of the Arena Fenicia Festival lights up again in Sant'Antioco with " Pensieri e Parole ": an intense tribute to Lucio Battisti presented by a top-notch cast, featuring the unique voice of Peppe Servillo accompanied by Javier Girotto (sax), Fabrizio Bosso (trumpet), Rita Marcotulli (piano), Furio Di Castri (double bass), and Mattia Barbieri (drums). Performed from 9:30 p.m. , the event is organized by Forma e Poesia nel Jazz .
Recalling from its title one of the most famous songs by the iconic Italian singer-songwriter, the project actually spans Battisti's entire career, from his collaborations with Mogol to those with Pasquale Panella , in twenty songs chosen to convey the colorful variety of a poetics – lyrical and sonic – that has profoundly influenced the history of Italian music.
A challenge far from simple: Battisti's catalog stands out for its compositional originality and the versatility of its musical languages and lyrics , in a creative vein that continues to amaze today. It's also difficult to reinterpret without limiting it to banal cover versions, but this very difficulty inspired the work on this project , thanks to Girotto's expert arrangements and Servillo's masterful stage presence.
A fresh, evocative, and unconventional reinterpretation, blending Latin flavors, enveloping rhythms, national memory, intense expressiveness, and powerful emotion , from " Il mio canto libero " to " Penso a te ." Six artists bring their talents to Battisti's compositions, bringing their different languages and sensibilities into dialogue: Italian songwriting thus encounters jazz, improvisation, and interpretive freedom in a musical territory without boundaries, except those dictated by melodic power, rich arrangements, and the magic of sound.
