The world premiere is in France , at the Aix-en-Provence International Festival . Tomorrow (with repeat performances on July 5, 7, 8, and 10) the Théâtre du Jeu de Paume will stage “ Accabadora ,” the opera that Francesco Filidei adapted from the widely translated novel by Michela Murgia.

Founded in 1948, the Aix-en-Provence Festival is one of Europe's most prestigious opera festivals. This year's theme is "In Search of Humanity," a journey through birth, life, and death, a theme perfectly suited to the novel, winner of the 2010 Campiello Prize.

The Logudorese language is present throughout the performances of the small choir (trained in Sardinian by Jana Bitti) that surrounds the libretto's three protagonists. The music, though contemporary, draws inspiration from traditional Sardinian styles and rhythms. The set design also features three enormous carpets, reminiscent of the ancient Sardinian art of weaving . This is an opportunity to bring the uniqueness of Sardinian culture to the international spotlight, not only through the use of a successful novel, but also through the skillful blending of past and present in a mix of influences that the composer has successfully generated, wonderfully supported by a sensitive direction that respects the Sardinian context brought to the stage.

The Lyon Opera Orchestra will be conducted by Lucy Leguay. The direction is by Valentina Carrasco.
