Matteo Berrettini positive at Covid and forced to skip Wimbledon , a tournament in which he was among the big favorites after last year's final and recent victories on grass in Stuttgart and at the Queen's in London.

The announcement was made by the Roman tennis player himself on his Instagram profile: " I am heartbroken in announcing that I have to withdraw from Wimbledon due to the positive result of the Covid-19 test", he wrote.

“I have had flu symptoms and have been in solitary confinement for the past few days. Although the symptoms are not severe, I decided it was important to take another test this morning to protect the health and safety of my fellow competitors and everyone else involved in the tournament. I have no words to describe the extreme disappointment I feel , the dream is over for this year but I will come back stronger ”.

Just today Berrettini would have made his debut facing Garin, but yesterday Jannik Sinner passed the turn by defeating Wawrinka in four sets.

Not exactly a lucky year for the 26-year-old from Rome, who has already missed the entire season on clay due to a hand injury .
