Michele Podda scored, but Lorenzo Etzi's L84 won Game 1 of the Serie A futsal championship final. The final match of the top-flight futsal championship ended 2-1 for the Turin team, who narrowly defeated two-time defending champions Meta Catania in Biella.
The match began with spectacular intensity, and L84 struck after 1'34" with a brilliant move that found Josiko's winner on the left. Podda scored in the second half, once again a decisive goal in the Scudetto finals and a former player of the night. The Villaspeciosa full-back received the ball from his goalkeeper Pedro Siqueira on the right, performed a superb feint with his sole, and managed to place the ball between the post and an opponent's sliding tackle on the line . L84 called for video support for a possible foul on the far side of the ball, but the referees ruled it 1-1.
The final score, however, favors L84, led by Etzi, who wasn't included in the squad tonight, and the other Sardinian, goalkeeping coach Marco Pasculli. Josiko, again on the left, scored the 2-1 with 2:36 left . Turmena then had the chance to equalize in the final minute, but was unable to extend the game. Game 2 will be played in Catania on Sunday at 9:00 PM: a Sicilian victory would bring the series to a third and decisive match, while a repeat win for Turin would already be worth the title.
