A weekend of great youth basketball. Nuoro hosted the CONI gym on Via Lazio, providing a thrilling spectacle. Finally, after two intense days, late this morning, the Veneto regional team won the "Sardinia Region Trophy – Nu4Basket." The young basketball players from Northern Italy defeated their peers from Lazio 89 to 72, securing the title dedicated to the memory of Marco Fadda and Roberto Ravarotto.
The appointment
The tournament, reserved for the under-15 category, effectively transformed the Barbagia capital into the "capital" of youth basketball. All this was possible thanks to the organization of the FIP Sardegna Committee, in collaboration with Pallacanestro Nuoro. As mentioned, the final event saw the Veneto team emerge victorious. The match was played at a fast pace and was only decided in the final minutes, although the scoreline suggests a wider gap between the two teams. The bronze medal, however, went to the Emilia-Romagna team, who defeated Tuscany 111 to 88. The hosts, the Sardinian basketball players, finished the event with a convincing sixth-place finish. Led by coach Nicola Pintonello, the Sardinian team proudly fought off Lombardy in the fifth-place match. In the end, the greater physicality of the guests prevailed, winning by 86 to 62. Finally, in the challenge for seventh place, the Umbria and Marche team got the better of Campania, with a score of 60 to 50.
MVP
Not only were the matches competitive and high-level, but the Nuoro tournament also provided a great showcase for the basketball players of tomorrow. A special mention goes to Augusto Grandi, of the Umbria-Marche team. He was unanimously voted the tournament's best player by the coaches in attendance. A well-deserved recognition for a talent who distinguished himself with leadership and technical prowess throughout the competition.
