With 207 votes in favor, 119 against and 4 abstentions, the Chamber of Deputies gives the green light to the vote of confidence posed by the government on the decree for new aid, including military aid, to Ukraine .
The measure, recalls the explanatory report cited in the parliamentary documentation, is connected to "the need to comply with the commitments undertaken by Italy within the United Nations, the European Union and the Atlantic Alliance , to more effectively address the ongoing international crisis in Ukraine, which affects geopolitical balances and undermines international security and stability, taking into account the importance of the efforts underway to reach a solution to the conflict."
The decree-law consists of three articles. Article 1, in the version submitted to Parliament, provided for the extension of the transfer of military resources, materials, and equipment to Ukraine . During its consideration by the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committees, it was amended to extend the transfer of resources, materials, and equipment to include civil defense resources. Consequently, the word "military" was removed from the article's heading and from the decree's title. Furthermore, the "priorities for aid" were specified: "logistical, medical, civilian, and protection from air, missile, drone, and cyber attacks." Furthermore, the documentation dossiers note that "this is the first extension decree to contain a clarification of the priorities."
Article 2 then places on the commissioning publishers obligations to provide training and insurance coverage for freelance journalists sent to war zones or areas at high risk of armed conflict, offering, on an experimental basis for the year 2026, a state contribution to cover the related costs, payable upon request of the publisher, up to a maximum overall expenditure limit of 600,000 euros and up to a maximum of 60,000 euros for each individual contribution (resources deriving from the Single Fund for Pluralism and Digital Innovation in Information and Publishing).
The measure was issued following the relevant guidelines expressed by the Chamber and the list of military equipment sent is "classified" and therefore not available .
The Vannacciani voted yes to the confidence motion, but no to the decree . "We will vote in favor of the confidence motion because this vote is not about the merits of the measure, which we remain opposed to , but rather serves to define a functional political perimeter that will allow parties to choose their position, and a right-wing party like Futuro Nazionale knows exactly where to stand. In fact, I have always said that we are not a tool of the left that seeks to destabilize the nation, contrary to what some claim, and we demonstrate this with our actions. We will maintain our agenda, which includes the commitment to interrupt arms supplies to Zelensky's army, and we will also vote against it in the final vote. We do not lend ourselves to the games of those who would like to label us as being alongside the Bonellis, Fratoiannis, Renzis, Contes, and Schleins of the day, but, at the same time, we will not renounce our identity," the former general declared in a statement.
"From today, the center-right will never be the same. We are voting yes to the motion of confidence. If we were in opposition, we wouldn't have voted . We have taken the first step and will support the majority whenever there are decrees we agree with," said Rossano Sasso , MP for Futuro Nazionale, explaining his decision to vote for confidence.
"The more Futuro Nazionale grows, the center-right will automatically have to advocate our demands too," he added.
