Mourning in the boxing world. After a long illness, Francesco Fiori died, former boxer from Porto Torres, Italian champion in the novice category, author of excellent performances as an amateur and then as a professional. He was 88 years old.

An excellent middleweight with countless fights behind him, supported and won as a professional between 1958 and 1962, before fighting the match with the famous Nino Benvenuti, for the national title. The fight took place in Priverno in August 1963 and ended after a good performance with the victory of the defending champion Benvenuti, by technical knockout in the third round. Two years later he tried again but, in Rimini, he was defeated by Bruno Santini.

He faced the best middleweights in Europe. In his professional career he held the position of urban policeman in the 60s and until 1999, at the Municipality of Porto Torres.
