2025 will be an important year for separate waste collection in Cagliari: with the new service contract and various awareness-raising activities, the municipal administration aims to gradually reach 80% separate waste collection.

This achievement is now possible thanks to widespread awareness of the door-to-door system, the presence of two permanent and two mobile eco-centres, urban recycling centres, the ecological bus service for the historic centre, the AligApp app and the Cagliariportaaporta website, which help direct information and reduce abandonment.

The Ecobolario thus becomes a central tool for informing and simplifying daily choices, helping to correctly separate and dispose of waste in each bin or bag, without errors.

An ally for every citizen

Today, citizens play an active and decisive role in the recycling chain, and the Ecobolario becomes the always-on guide for correcting doubts or small errors, improving the quality of waste sent for recycling and progressively reducing the unsorted fraction.

A practical example?

After consuming a takeout pizza, you may be unsure whether to properly dispose of the box it came in because it's always a bit dirty. What should you do?

In reality, you're "wrapping" yourself for nothing: the pizza box should be thrown away with the paper, like a normal cardboard box, even if slightly greasy. Any food scraps (from mozzarella to bell peppers!) should not be thrown in with the box; they go in the organic waste bin. In short: the box should be placed in the paper bin; only any remaining oil-soaked part of the box should be reduced in size and placed in the organic waste bin.

Cagliari's primacy in waste separation

It's no coincidence that Cagliari currently ranks first among Italian metropolitan cities, with over 75% separate waste collection. Every day, 150 vehicles and 450 operators work across multiple shifts to ensure a timely service, with an information center always open.
