The 18th edition of the "DH Lawrence" International Travel Literature Festival concluded with a ride on the Trenino Verde . It was a final day dedicated to landscape and memory, with the historic train once again packed with passengers, amidst colors, encounters, and glimpses of the region . The journey from Mandas to Laconi served as a fitting conclusion to an event that, once again this year, brought the relationship between literature, travel, and identity back to the forefront, echoing the experience recounted by David Herbert Lawrence on his 1921 trip to Sardinia. "The 18th edition of the Lawrence Festival concludes with a resounding success with the ride on the Trenino Verde," commented Mayor Umberto Oppus, expressing his satisfaction with the turnout and thanking everyone who contributed to the initiative's success.
The festival's results are further enriched by the awards presented in recent days. Among these, the Lawrence Prize for Journalism went to Roberto Giacobbo , who participated in a meeting with Fausto Orrù in front of a large audience at Mandas. The evening also featured a screening of "Mandas - The Land of Origins," a documentary about the town that aired on Rete4 as part of "Freedom." On the literary front, the Festival also uncovered another important piece of news for Mandas. Marcello Fois, a previous winner of the Lawrence Prize for Literature, won the 64th Campiello Prize with "L'impero distrazione," published by Einaudi. A bond that continues: Salvatore Niffoi and Andrea Molesini, past Lawrence Prize winners, have also subsequently won the Campiello. "Heartfelt congratulations to Marcello Fois," said Oppus, arranging to meet him in Mandas to greet him personally.
With the Trenino Verde, the curtain falls on the 18th edition of the Lawrence Festival. This event continues to make travel its guiding theme, and the historic train a prime location for narrating Mandas and its territory: a journey that, more than a century after Lawrence's, continues to intertwine literature, memory, and tourism.
