«The strong point of the culture and language or rather, of the linguistic scope, of the whole of Sardinia, is called plurilingualism, and it is one of the rare examples of the entire Mediterranean basin».

This was affirmed last Friday, in the council hall of La Maddalena, by Piero Bardanzellu, a member of the Consulta Intercomunale Gallura, who presented, together with Quintino Mossa and Giancarlo Tusceri, the work carried out in recent years, as part of a regional tender relating to the "Orthographic standardization of Gallurese and of the variants of Castellanese (Castelsardo) and Isulanu (La Maddalena)"; the castellanese for the historical origin of Castelsardo, with evident Genoese influences and the isulanu for the Corsican influence deriving from the origin of the first inhabitants of La Maddalena.

"We have finished this work as a group - informed Bardanzellu - after which, by 28 February we will present everything to the Region". The meeting was opened and moderated by the Councilor for Culture and Traditions, Gianvincenzo Belli, who expressed satisfaction with the recognition obtained recently by the Region regarding isulanu (Maddalenino) as a "minority language".

Piero Bardanzellu recalled prof. Fiorenzo Toso, of the University of Sassari, who recently passed away, who wrote in the introductory report to the work carried out, that " the research examines the variegated world of speech in more detail and establishes the clear rules that govern a subject subjected to a mathematical evolution under the pressure of the oral tradition which reverberates its effects on the written one. It is a healthy operation to shed light on legitimate and abusive situations created over time and rooted in a common feeling that is not always formed by precise rules. In this way the variety supports a corpus that is finally clear in its facets and as a whole». It was then recalled and underlined how Gallura in the context of the northern Sardinian linguistic system represents «a cultural reality that clearly stands out from the other territories of the island and Gallura is characterized by a solid basic unity , both in terms of structure and semantics".

The Maddalena scholar Giancarlo Tusceri, after recalling the late Ornella De Stasio as «a fixed point of the island's dialect» proposed to the councilor Gianvincenzo Belli, as regards the variant l' isulanu , to organize «a sort of course to unify - for all those who want to write grammatically and graphically, words and sounds».
