A delegation of Japanese food professionals traveled to Sardinia to discover the island's traditional products and manufacturing sector.
Ten Japanese distributors and importers from large-scale retail trade and two journalists from the specialized press arrived on the island as part of a follow-up program following Sardinia's participation in "FOODEX Japan 2026" last March. The Region explains that meetings were established there aimed at providing "concrete opportunities for learning, discussion, and commercial collaboration."
The program yesterday included a first day dedicated to visits to a selection of Sardinian companies, divided into two thematic groups. Those involved in the seafood and condiments sectors visited Carloforte Tonnare in Carloforte and CP&G in Villacidro. The group dedicated to wines and cheeses visited Cantine Trexenta in Senorbì, Caseificio Antonio Garau dal 1880 in Mandas, and Cantine Su Entu in Sanluri.
Today was dedicated to B2B meetings between Japanese operators and 11 Sardinian companies in the fishing, dairy, olive oil, wine, and baking sectors.
Also at the works at the Teatro Lirico in Cagliari was the regional councillor for Industry Emanuele Cani.
"With this initiative," Cani emphasizes, "we are continuing the work the Region has been carrying out for several years in the Japanese market. The goal is to ensure continuity in Sardinia's presence at FOODEX and create opportunities for direct contact between international operators and our production system. Bringing Japanese operators to the island means raising awareness not only of our products, but also of the companies, regions, and production capabilities that underpin our agri-food production."
As mentioned, the incoming program represents the natural development of Sardinia's participation in FOODEX Japan 2026, in which 8 regional companies took part, representing products including wine, carasau bread, tuna, bottarga, and pecorino cheese.
Meanwhile, the Region has already begun the process for participation in FOODEX Japan 2027, "continuing an internationalization strategy aimed at strengthening the presence of Sardinian agri-food companies in Japan and the Asia-Pacific region."
