"Violence against women is a failure of our society as a whole, which has failed, in the path of liberation undertaken by women in the last century, to accept a fully equal concept of couple relations". Thus the President Sergio Mattarella on the International Day aimed at raising awareness on a phenomenon that, unfortunately, knows no end: only in 2021 in Italy there were 108 femicides since the beginning of the year and 88 women were killed by their partner.

This violence "originates from a distorted vision of the relationship between man and woman - continues Mattarella - which sees the second as an object and in any case as a subject not worthy of full respect. It is in the idea of inferiority that pervades, still too often , the approach to the female question, in which the roots of all forms of violence are found ".

"A unanimous effort of all the institutions is needed to fight this social cancer at its root - the words of the President of the Sardinia Region Christian Solinas - guaranteeing a support network that indicates and guarantees the victims the path to free themselves from all kinds of violence and oppression, starting from listening.

"The Sardinian Region - continues Solinas - is committed in the area with support for anti-violence centers, to guarantee women victims of violence that moment of welcome and listening which is the prerequisite for a path of liberation from situations of violence of all kinds, inside and outside the home ". "In the year in which we celebrate Grazia Deledda, the luminous emblem of the Sardinian woman - the conclusion - we want to multiply our commitment to combat all forms of violence against women, aware that much still remains to be done".

On the part of Monsignor Giuseppe Baturi, bishop of Cagliari, “a thought to the victims and orphans of femicide, but also to women who do not find the courage to denounce their tragedy, freeing themselves from violence. I am also thinking of young people, for whom a great educational commitment is urgent so that the discovery of love is purified from every violent instinct and is increasingly fulfilled as respect for the other and for his freedom and desire to serve his good ".

THE COMING MEASURES - "Too many women killed, too many requests for help not adequately and promptly collected. A shame of our civilization", the Minister of Justice Marta Cartabia thundered yesterday in acknowledging a system that is not working.

For 40 years the state has canceled the aberration that was the honor killing. Since then the code has been periodically updated, the practice adapted to the times: new crimes, more severe penalties, prevention campaign, listening centers. But then comes the time of the balance sheets, as in these days, and the data speak of 109 women who have died since the beginning of the year, 8% more than last year, 63 at the hands of the partner or the ex. And they are not cold statistics, but lives interrupted.

The latest is that of Juana Cecilia Loayza, 34, killed on Friday night in a park in Reggio Emilia by a repeat offender. In Sardinia, which has the sad record in the incidence of revenge porn crimes on the population, the deaths of Angelica di Quartucciu or the serious cases of violence recorded in Sennori, Tortolì and Cagliari are unfortunately known.

The objective, therefore, is to think of new measures, and do it quickly. "The gravity of the facts - recalled the Minister of Justice - calls the institutions to rethink more adequate rules and procedures": gender-based violence is not corrected "only by means of laws", but laws are useful.

Therefore, a package that five ministers are working on is coming, and which should arrive on the government table next week, with interventions on the criminal code and criminal procedure to strengthen the prevention tools: therefore an increase in the penalty for the crimes of beatings and injuries and ex officio prosecution. The Viminale is also studying the extension of the use of the electronic bracelet, and in the event of refusal, house arrest could be triggered.
