Verona: Man chokes to death after eating a croissant; rescue efforts are futile.

Tragedy struck in San Martino BuonAlbergo, in the Verona area, where a 51-year-old man died while eating a croissant.

The man developed breathing problems while riding in the car with two family members who called for help at a pharmacy down the road . Employees attempted to revive the 51-year-old with a defibrillator, but he died despite their efforts.

The Suem 118 paramedics who arrived on the scene found that the man's airways were blocked by croissant residue.

A Carabinieri patrol was also at the scene of the tragedy.
