Venice, small boat hits poles: young man falls into the water and drowns

Tragedy last night in Venice.

A boy drowned after his boat hit a briccola - the posts that mark the waterways in the lagoon - and ended up in the water.

The young man, together with two friends, was returning home after having witnessed the show of the fireworks of the Redeemer. The accident occurred in the canal between San Giorgio and San Servolo. The two young women were unharmed.

The firefighters, on duty at the demonstration, arrived at the scene with the divers. But for the victim there was now nothing left to do.
