Filippo Turetta, the 23-year-old sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his ex-girlfriend, Giulia Cecchettin, was transferred in recent days from the 'protected' section of the Verona prison to the 'medium security' section, with the common inmates .

Turetta has been in Montorio prison since November 25, 2023, after his arrest in Germany, and even after being sentenced to life imprisonment on December 3, he had always remained in the 'protected' section.

The move alerted the young man's lawyers, who sent a report to the prison management, for information also to the Court of Cassation and the Venice Public Prosecutor's Office, convinced that "special attention to the prisoner is necessary at this time" .

Turetta's lawyers have asked that their client be returned to the 'protected' section, "taking into account his young age and the seriousness of the crime, the media coverage and the general feeling of horror that it has aroused in the national community ."

The young man himself, Repubblica reports, confided his fears in a phone call to his parents.

The transfer was mainly due to overcrowding in the section reserved for those who have committed crimes of strong social reprobation , but also to the choice to continue Turetta's recovery process in other areas of the prison.
