The number of suspects in the investigation into the Naples boy who underwent a heart transplant that failed due to a series of medical errors is expected to grow. According to reports, the documents from the investigation opened in Bolzano following the complaint filed by Federconsumatori Napoli, alleging negligence for death or personal injury in a healthcare setting, will arrive in Naples. The complaint is currently against unknown persons.
It is not ruled out that investigators may soon include South Tyrolean health workers in the list of suspects. Attention is focused on the supply of ice. According to what has emerged so far, including from the Monaldi hospital's internal investigation, in Bolzano the container intended to transport the explanted heart was filled with dry ice instead of regular ice, causing the organ to freeze and damage it. Currently, six doctors and paramedics are under investigation in Naples, but the number could increase following assessments based on the investigative material gathered in the Neapolitan capital and in South Tyrol.
The two offices, which are respectively assisting the NAS of Naples and Trento, have been coordinating for some time to shed full light on the little boy's case.
