Tragedy in the mountains: killed by an avalanche while looking for his two dogs

Returning to the mountains to retrieve his two dogs, he died after being swept away by an avalanche.

The tragedy occurred in Alta Valle Spluga in Madesimo (Sondrio). Michele Buga, a 60-year-old originally from Romania but a long-time resident of the Lecco area, was with the two huskies when, last Saturday, he was surprised by the bad weather and lost his bearings. Having reached safety in the middle of the night, he had reached the bottom of the valley and warned the rescuers who had found the two dogs without being able to bring them back to the village . Yesterday afternoon Buga therefore decided to go back to the mountains but during the search he was killed by an avalanche.

The body has been recovered. The two dogs were taken to the police station in Madesimo.
