Tons of cocaine at the port: two Customs officials arrested
At least five imports of drugs destined for the 'Ndrangheta have been confirmed. The employee of a shipping company was also involved in the investigations
Over 2.7 tons of cocaine were seized in the port of Gioia Tauro during investigations conducted by the Financial Police and coordinated by the DDA of Reggio Calabria which this morning led to the arrest of two officials of the Customs and Monopolies Agency of Gioia Tauro is an employee of a shipping company.
During the investigations, also conducted with the collaboration of staff from the Customs and Monopolies Agency, the investigators discovered 5 imports of cocaine between June 2020 and October 2022, for over 3 tonnes of cocaine, 2.7 of which were intercepted by financiers.
According to investigators, the two officials altered the controls to facilitate drug trafficking with the 'Ndrangheta, in collaboration with a woman who worked for a freight forwarder.
