A 25-year-old young man died and a 23-year-old friend of his was injured along the railway line in Mestre, hit by a regional train bound for Venice.

Shortly after midnight, the two were crossing the tracks on foot. The driver saw them at the last moment and tried to brake but was unable to avoid the impact.

It is not known why the boys, both living in the Veronese area, wanted to cross the railway. The survivor would have told the rescuers that they wanted to reach the road on the other side of the line , where the Vega Center is, the scientific and technological center that is located a short distance from the Fincantieri plant, to make a withdrawal from an ATM. But the story does not convince the investigators, who continue to investigate.

The victim's name was Manuel Tripargoletti, 25, a young graduate originally from Cosenza, who had been living in the Veneto region, in Legnago, for some time. The friend who was injured, with injuries to his arm, and already discharged from hospital, is a 23-year-old resident of Bevilacqua (Verona), but who in fact lived in Legnago.

The regional convoy had just left the Mestre station and was traveling at reduced speed in the direction of Venice. The engine did not fully invest the two boys: the 23-year-old was only grazed, at shoulder height; Manuel Tripargoletti, on the other hand, was caught more clearly, ending up thrown a few tens of meters ahead. He died instantly.
