The autopsy and ballistic tests will shed light on the dynamics of the death of the three hunters , Antonio Gatani, 82 years old, the Davis brothers and Giuseppe Pino, aged 26 and 44 , who died from gunshots.
The bodies were found yesterday, riddled with bullets, by a hunter in the countryside of Montagnareale, a village in the Nebrodi mountains near Messina. The Carabinieri are investigating the incident, continuing their inquiries and questioning throughout the night. The three men had no criminal record and had no ties to criminal circles, ruling out the possibility of their deaths being linked to a settling of scores . They had been out hunting in an area known for the presence of wild Nebrodi black pigs, which are sometimes slaughtered and sold on the black market.
The Patti Public Prosecutor's Office, which is coordinating the Carabinieri investigation, is examining two hypotheses: a tragic error during the hunting trip (though it is unlikely that there were three victims) or that one of the three, perhaps the older man, killed the other two with rifle shots during an argument and then committed suicide .
Last night, the Carabinieri went to the victims' homes to interview their families and ask what they had said before leaving for the hunt, and above all, whether they knew if there were other people with them.
It's also unclear whether there was a fourth man in the woods . The Carabinieri interviewed the person who raised the alarm at the station. He normally went hunting with Gatani but, according to rumors, didn't know the Pino brothers.
