The search for Elia Del Grande, the man who 27 years ago carried out what became known as the “bakers' massacre” , continues in Sardinia . He fled from a work community in Castelfranco Emilia , in the province of Modena.
Del Grande, born in 1975 and 22 at the time, killed his father, mother, and brother, bakers from Cadrezzate, in the Varese area. After serving 25 of his 30-year sentence (following several thefts and arguments with neighbors in Olbia, where he settled after his release ), he was assigned for six months to a hybrid penitentiary facility, where many special cases like his are processed and where many of the people held there have jobs and are on a rehabilitation program. But the man has gone missing, and investigations and searches to locate him continue unabated, focusing not only on the island but also in Emilia and Lombardy.
Suspicions also appear to focus on Del Grande's partner, who had visited him a few days earlier and who had already helped him plan his escape from Pavia prison in 2015, which later failed.
Meanwhile, according to the Modena edition of Resto del Carlino, Del Grande's escape was captured on a surveillance video from late Thursday afternoon. The footage shows Del Grande tying a rope to the camera pole, lowering himself down, and then disappearing.
