The Attorney General's Office at the Venice Court of Appeal has dropped its appeal against Filippo Turetta's life sentence . This was announced by the lawyers representing Giulia Cecchettin's family, Nicodemo Gentile, Piero Coluccio, and Stefano Tigani, who were notified of the decision.
Thus ends the trial regarding the femicide of Giulia Cecchettin .
In fact, Turetta, speaking of his "sincere repentance," had accepted a life sentence, writing a letter announcing his withdrawal from the appeal his lawyers intended to file to rule out premeditation.
The Prosecutor's Office, however, intended to appeal the case, requesting that the aggravating circumstances of cruelty and stalking be recognized. These had been ruled out in the first instance, even though they would not have increased the sentence. Today's decision definitively closes the case.
