Emanuele De Maria, 35 , will not be able to tell what clearly appears to be the second femicide committed in his life . Nor will he be able to explain why, at dawn on Saturday, the inmate of the Bollate prison admitted to external work in the Hotel Berna, near the Central Station, stabbed five times his colleague, the Egyptian bartender Hani Nasr who, after delicate surgical operations, is now out of danger of life and will be questioned as soon as possible by the investigators of the Flying Squad of the Police Headquarters and by the prosecutor Francesco De Tomasi.
De Maria, who was detained for killing a 23-year-old Tunisian girl, Oumaima Rache, in Castel Volturno in the province of Caserta in 2016, threw himself yesterday afternoon from the 40 meters of the terraces of the Milan Cathedral , dying instantly.
Shortly after, the Carabinieri of the Investigative Unit and of Sesto San Giovanni in the Parco Nord, with the help of the firefighters' divers, found the body of what appears to all intents and purposes to be his second victim: Chamila Wijesuriya, 50 years old , married with a son who had been missing since Friday afternoon. The woman had two cuts to her throat and others to her wrists , the Tunisian girl had also been killed in 2016 with cuts to her throat. Chamila also worked at the Hotel Berna, she was Italian of Sri Lankan origin.
The tragedy was intuited when an ATM employee, on Friday, found the woman's cell phone in a bin at the Bignami subway stop, not far from Parco Nord. The husband was looking for her after being notified that his wife had not shown up for work at the Berna hotel . The cell phone could be used to clarify the relationship between the two. The Egyptian barman was injured on Saturday morning.
On Friday, De Maria, having finished work (he had a permanent job at the hotel), had not returned to prison : he had met Chamila, as he apparently had done other times, and the cameras around the Parco Nord had filmed the two while they were walking. Other cameras, two hours later, had immortalized De Maria alone at the Bignami metro stop.
The man must have hidden all night and waited for his colleague until 6 a.m. on Saturday to stab him five times with a knife and flee while the Egyptian sought safety in the hotel. In the meantime, investigators had linked the wounding to Chamila's disappearance and began searching for both of them.
It was feared that De Maria might have taken a train to escape abroad, as he had done after the murder of the young Tunisian woman from Castel Volturno, and for this reason the Polfer had also been put on alert. After that femicide on January 31, 2016, he had in fact been captured in 2018 in Germany, on the border with the Netherlands. Then prison in Secondigliano and transfer to Bollate where he could have had a second chance with the possibility of working outside until the end of his sentence, scheduled for December 2030.
Second chance that she managed in the worst possible way, killing her friend and seriously injuring the man she probably considered her rival in the relationship with the woman .
On Sunday afternoon the final act: after hiding for 48 hours, he regularly paid for the ticket to visit the Cathedral; he climbed up to the terraces and threw himself without hesitation from the symbolic place of Milan . Despite the trauma of the fall, the agents of the Flying Squad did not take long to recognize him. He had fragments of Chamila's identity documents with him.
