The trial celebrated with the ordinary rite for the events in Piazza San Carlo ended with three sentences and 6 acquittals today in Turin. The court imposed two years of imprisonment on Michele Mollo, manager of the Police Headquarters, one year and four months on Alberto Bonzano, at the time manager of the Police Headquarters, and one year and two months on Marco Sgarbi, manager of the Municipal Police.
Among those acquitted are the former deputy prefect Roberto Dosio, two managers of the Municipality and the members of the provincial supervisory commission.
On the evening of June 3, 2017, a series of waves of panic in the crowd following the Champions League final between Juventus and Real Madrid on a large screen in Piazza San Carlo caused 1,600 injuries and, subsequently, the death of two women, Erika Pioletti and Marisa Amato.
This process examined the gaps in the organization and management of the event. Disaster, manslaughter and injury were the alleged crimes. In a parallel vein, celebrated with the abbreviated rite, the former first citizen Chiara Appendino was sentenced to 18 months.
Marisa Amato's family members are entitled to a salary of 1.1 million euros, 500 thousand to her husband and 300 thousand to each of the two children. The civilian responsible are the vomune of Turin and the Ministry of the Interior.
“Unfortunately, the sentence will not bring Marisa Amato back to life. The hope is therefore that this decision, of undoubted legal impact in the areas of safety and security, will also become a cultural stimulus so that tragedies of this type do not repeat themselves ", comments the lawyer Nicola Menardo, of Studio Grande Stevens, patron of the party civil law for the woman's family members.
