An autopsy will be carried out in the next few days, also with the aid of the CT scan, to ascertain the physical conditions and the causes that led to the death of the journalist Andrea Purgatori.

After the family's complaint, two doctors from a diagnostic facility in Rome are the first to be investigated by the prosecutor. The prosecutors, coordinated by the adjunct Sergio Colaiocco, dispute the crime of manslaughter.

Important answers on the cause of death will come, however, from the autopsy. Today the Public Prosecutor's Office has entrusted the examination which, if necessary, will be followed by a second technical consultancy: in fact, the need for further investigations to verify the correctness of the diagnosis on the basis of the tests carried out in particular in the Pius XI clinic cannot be excluded.

The CT scan will be carried out on Tuesday, the autopsy will take place on Wednesday. Among the questions of the investigations , the verification of the presence of metastases, where and at what stage, and possible traces of an ischemia and its level of severity . Also the exact cause of death attributed to septic pericarditis will be verified.

THE RECONSTRUCTION – In short, we want to ascertain what caused Purgatori's death in a few weeks and whether there were errors both in the diagnosis and in the treatments carried out. A story that, in fact, is consumed in three months. On April 24, the conductor of Atlantis went to a private clinic to carry out checks in the light of a state of exhaustion. However, the instrumental tests return unbalanced parameters and a biopsy is also performed. The word then passes to another specialized structure from which, however, the dramatic diagnosis arrives at the beginning of May: a form of cancer spread to various areas of the body, to the lungs and the brain . This was communicated by one of the two doctors who ended up in the register of suspects. Massive radiotherapy is then immediately ordered which the journalist carries out in a third clinic.

Conditions remain stable until mid-May until the picture begins to deteriorate. In June he undergoes a CT scan in the first clinic he went to in April. The report, again according to what the family members report in the complaint, is unexpected: no trace of brain metastases, only traces of cerebral ischemia. A picture also confirmed by a further MRI carried out in another structure. However, the conditions of the former Corriere della Sera journalist continue to plummet. He is hospitalized in one of the capital's polyclinics. There the first diagnosis is confirmed for the family members. According to family members, this was communicated by one of the signatories of the report issued in early May with the first dramatic diagnosis. A few days later Purgatori died.

"We respect the pain of the family and we withdraw from the media process - says the lawyer Fabio Lattanzi, defender of the two doctors - We hope that the clamor will subside and we are sure that the technical investigations will demonstrate the correctness of the work of Professor Gianfranco Gualdi and Dr. Claudio di Biasi".
