The eighth-grade student who stabbed a teacher, seriously injuring her, at a school in the province of Bergamo on Wednesday may have been "strongly influenced by others." This is the concern of the thirteen-year-old's family's lawyer, Carlo Foglieni, after "during questioning, the boy appeared detached from reality ."
From this perspective, "the family hopes that the investigation will be able to carefully examine the possible role of individuals known to the minor through social networks ," adds the lawyer, who also calls for attention to the lack of controls on online purchases of potentially dangerous objects, even by very young people.
The young man was being treated by a psychologist, a program "desired and initiated by the family precisely because of the problematic and conflictual relationship with the teacher at school," a "situation already known to the school and which had manifested itself in previous years."
The minor's family, "still deeply shocked by what happened, learns with sincere relief that Professor Chiara Mocchi's life is not in danger and that her condition is improving," the lawyer added, emphasizing that "since the first hours following the events, the parents have placed themselves at the complete disposal of the competent authorities, cooperating fully with investigators to shed light on the incident."
"I'm going to kill my French teacher. It's not a random choice, it's a deliberate one. She likes to target me, humiliate me in front of everyone, make mean comments, unfunny jokes, and justify violence against me," the thirteen-year-old wrote on Telegram.
A text in English titled "Manifesto - Final Solution" was very cold in content. "Since the 'kids' apparently don't understand what's right and wrong, I'll use this to my advantage," the young man wrote. " I can't be imprisoned, since the minimum age for criminal responsibility in Italy is 14. I can't even be tried, so I'll do what I've always wanted to do: kill her and anyone who tries to stop me . It's not just an act of revenge: it's a way to break the boring routine in the most extreme way possible. I'm tired of being a banal guy, of always having to do the same things."
The video of the attack was posted on the same Telegram group. The boy, who is now in a protected community, explained that it was triggered by an attention deficit disorder test, explaining that he wanted to kill his father but then lacked the courage .
Chiara Mocchi, the teacher who was attacked, hopes instead that "this wound will not become a wall but a bridge towards a more caring school, a more united community, a new way of being close to the kids, especially those who are struggling the most, like perhaps the one who struck me and who perhaps deep down won't even know why."
"This life is a gift I will not waste. I know what happened has shocked many of you," he wrote to the students. "It has generated fear, questions, perhaps even discouragement. That's why I tell you: let's not let the darkness overcome us."
