Hours of great anguish have engulfed a six-year-old boy who disappeared this afternoon at sea off the Cavallino beach, on the Venetian coast. For a moment , the little boy escaped his mother's gaze, and by the time she realized she no longer saw him in the water, it was already too late .
Searches by divers and helicopters have so far yielded no results. The little boy is missing, and dismay has descended on the campsites along that stretch of coast.
There was also an outpouring of solidarity. When the rescue operations began, many of the tourists on the beach decided to form a large human chain, searching the stretch of sea meter by meter, unfortunately without success.
From the firefighters' helicopter , a line of at least fifty people could be seen slowly advancing, carefully scanning the water. But the little boy was not found.
It was the mother who raised the alarm, around 4:00 PM, on a scorching day, with no wind and very calm seas. The search began a few minutes later, coordinated by the Venice Port Authority.
Diving teams and the Veneto regional fire brigade arrived on the scene, also using jet skis to search the area, while a helicopter continuously flew over the stretch of beach in increasingly widening trajectories.
The search initially focused on the waters off the Ca' Pasquali area, in an area stretching from the Vela Blu campsite to the Blue Sea establishment, and involved all the lifeguards at the lifeguard towers.
The rescuers' hypothesis is that the child may have gone too far into the water, losing his bearings and being unable to return to shore.
