According to reports, the alleged murderer of Mamadi Tunkara, the security guard stabbed to death in via Tiraboschi, in the centre of Bergamo, was stopped at the border with Switzerland.
Information is still fragmentary, but the police have arrested a man who is believed to be linked to the murder that took place outside the Carrefour supermarket, where the victim worked as a security guard: the stabbings apparently came at the height of an argument, although it is believed that it was a premeditated act. Some witnesses had described the alleged perpetrator as an adult man, with dark skin, and about 1.80 meters tall.
The victim was born in Gambia 36 years ago and lived in Verdello. Everyone called him Lookman, because of his resemblance to the Atalanta footballer.
"It is with deep dismay that we learned of the tragic event that occurred in the center of our city," wrote the mayor of Bergamo, Elena Carnevali, in a note. "At this moment I would like to express all my closeness and sincere condolences to the victim's family, affected by such a painful loss," continued the mayor, "safety and civil coexistence are fundamental values for Bergamo, and every episode of violence is a wound for our entire community. As an administration, we are in close contact with the competent authorities to ensure that justice takes its course and to provide all the most useful support together with the garrison of the territory to guarantee the safety of all citizens."
